Discover Scandola – Girolata
The village of Girolata is to doors of the Scandola natural reserve, reservation, both land and sea.
The village is accessible only by the “way of the factor”, a stroll for an hour and a half, or by boat from the port of Porto. On account of the winter a dozen inhabitants, while in the summer the village is invested by many tourists in search of authenticity.
Girolata provides access to the Scandola nature reserve, which extends up to the navy to Elbu in the south of Galeria.
Scandola cannot be visited only by sea, and the navigation rules are strict because this natural territory, with the Creeks of Piana, is listed on the UNESCO world heritage site.
The peninsula called Scandola is made up of rock structures in the caldera that correspond to an ancient volcano collapsed into the sea. The marine erosion and wind have carved a landscape with rocks like supernatural. Tafoni, organs ryolitiques, islets and giddy caves will not fail to enchant you.
The reserve is the playground ospreys, golden eagles, cormorants, peregrine falcons, but also corals, gorgonians, groupers, dentex, moray eel, red mullet, and sea mammals ! Its flora has more than 30 plants of which more than half are protected species.
